Incubating chicken eggs - a personal learning experience

I've always wanted to relive my childhood's joy, that of owning chickens once again. The lockdown provided the much-needed time to experience the excitement of playing mother hen and watching life happen inside the egg.

This is a video with the stages of development captured during the 21 days of incubation, all the way till hatching day. My students loved watching the chicks come out of their eggshells. I hope you enjoy it, too!

Sensory learning using manipulatives - cycles of life

This week we've watched videos about life cycles, played computer games, completed worksheets, and so it was only natural to explore sensory learning using manipulatives.

My students experienced each stage of butterfly development, by placing actual figurines in chronological order. Those who learn better by touching and manipulating were happy to see my "toys" and correctly named each one of the stages.

International Bees Day - May 20

We celebrated International Bees Day today, so everything we\ve learned today revolved around bees: why they are so important for life on earth, their life cycle, how is honey made, what can we do to protect bees.

We finished the day making a craft about bees in their natural, wild habitat.

Wednesday - ICT in class: exploring life cycles

Our first ICT day of the week invited my students to an electronic evaluation using "live worksheets". The students had to put the development stages in chronological order. Also, Thanks to our project partner, Paulina Rymarz, I discovered Quiver Vision, so my students had a blast playing with augmented reality. Their drawings came to life as they explored how a tiny butterfly egg turns into a larva, a pupa, and then emerges as a young butterfly.

The life cycle of a plant

We watched an animated video today (thanks to our project partner Veneta, from Bulgaria, who shared the resource), then we colored, cut, and completed a worksheet by gluing each stage in its proper place.

Beginner reader activities with spring flowers

My students are in reception class so in this school year they are learning how to read and write. I've incorporated some activities in our daily classes, activities that include: syllables reading and matching, word matching, and playing with singulars and plurals. We've used worksheets, PowerPoint and WordWall designed games to help us achieve our lesson objectives.

Parts of a plant. Roots of bulbs.

This week my students have learned about the parts of a plant and about root systems. They've learned that not all roots look the same and that some of their favorite spring flowers have bulbs, while others have roots.

Then they've learned how to read words like "root", stem", "leaves" and "flowers". They've used this activity to color, cut, and glue a puzzle they've made on their own.

Spring in Romania - nature and local traditions in spring

For those interested in some interesting facts about spring in Romania, check out this padlet.

Spring in My Language - Romanian

Marta Kordzinska, our partner from Poland, came up with a great idea for our project. Making a video/audio collage for spring said in all the languages presented in this project.

This was our contribution: "spring" in Romanian reads "primăvara"

Spring flower photo diary

My students and their parents were provoked to actively look for spring blooms in their own gardens and walks and record them by building photo albums

I've created a few collages with the pictures received from them:

I hope you like our garden photo album! :) These are from my reception students, Cernica Middle School No. 1, Romania

Literacy connection this week!

This week we are moving into studying spring by making literacy connections.

To kickstart the week, I have made a Wordwall game, that you, teachers can use and customize, changing the words into your own language.

Click here to access Wordwall: https://wordwall.net/resource/15964098

Once you have made the necessary changes, share the game with your students. The game is aimed at reception, 1st and 2nd-grade students. If you tweak it using the link above, you can adapt it for kindergartners.

Enjoy!
